Kumasi Media deliberately quiet over Asantehene Otumfuor Osei Tutu’s £350k Money laundering Scandal.
The Media in Kumasi in the Ashanti region have been mute over the alleged money laundering scandal in the United Kingdom that has mentioned the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu, Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako Justice has reported .
“I have monitored the media space since the story broke last night and no radio station here has been bold enough to discuss or speak about it like the media normally do to issues. And that is not normal considering the nature of the media here,” Bediako told Naa Deede Tettey on the Starr Midday News.
Also, the Manhyia Palace has refused to officially comment on the matter only saying the King may respond to it if he returns from his current trip abroad.
The report which emerged in the UK-based Telegraph online portal claimed a top banker in the country lost his job after receiving a huge amount of cash for savings for the Otumfuo, a practice frowned upon by the UK laws.
To a Ghanaian King, handing someone a holdall stuffed with more than £350,000 to deposit in a bank might seem nothing out of the ordinary.
Indeed, when Osei Tutu II, traditional ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti, summoned Mark Arthur to his multimillion-pound residence in Henley-on-Thames and handed him a bag containing almost £200,000 in sterling as well as $200,000 in US currency with consecutive serial numbers, the bank official felt it inappropriate to ask too many questions.
“However, the subsequent deposit of the cash at Ghana International Bank triggered a money laundering alert in the City of London and cost Mr Arthur his job,” portions of the report read.
Otumfuo is the traditional and spiritual head of the Ashanti kingdom.
