Sergeant Salifu Dagarti - the man who took bullet for Nkrumah
This sad tragedy took place on 2nd January, 1964. Kwame Nkrumah was walking in the forecourt of the Flagstaff House (now Jubilee House) with personal guards and ‘trusted’ cops. An assassin squeezes off a bullet and misses.
Salifu Dagarti pushed Kwame Nkrumah down, and saved his life. For reward, the next bullet drills cleanly through Salifu’s skull.
Bystanders looked on as the assassin chased after Nkrumah into a kitchen at the Flagstaff House. Kwame Nkrumah was screaming, but no help arrived. Kwame Nkrumah personally wrestled and overpowered a gun-toting assassin.
Salifu Dagarti, though dead, he still lives on.
